What to do with your Biodegradable Tableware

So your guests have left and you’re relaxing a bit in the post-party lull – trying to avoid thinking about tidying up!

But you’ve done a great thing for the planet in getting biodegradable and compostable tableware, so we’ve been looking into what you do with it next with a few local councils…

Composting

If you don’t want to put the tableware in the normal rubbish, a good option is to compost.

Some Councils sell home composters and even organise community composting.

For more information on composting see http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/composting/

 Garden Waste

In order to comply with strict environmental legislation, no food waste of any type (i.e. meat, fish, vegetable or fruit) will be accepted.

This is mainly because green waste is then taken to a composting facility where the compost is sold to farmers or to be purchased in individual bags.

  Food waste recycling

Not in the food waste recycling (it is treated at high temperatures to kill bacteria and would confuse the refuse collectors)

If you are interested in the composting option, it’s worth getting in touch with your local council to see how they can help.
