Top 5 Celebrity Eco-Heroes 2014

As much as we believe in worldwide eco-friendly efforts though, we understand the impact and influence that celebrity eco-heroes can have on those who are reluctant to go green, or at least go greener.

That is why we have dedicated this blog to 2014’s top five celebrity eco-heroes. These celebrities are the biggest, brightest and best-known stars that the music, film and entertainment industries have to offer, and it is good to see that they are using their powers for good.

By supporting various environmental initiatives and foundations, as well as using their elevated public status to raise awareness and encourage action, these celebrity eco-heroes are part of the driving force behind a greener world.

So without further ado, here are the top five celebrity eco-heroes of 2014.

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck is more than one of Hollywood’s most famous faces; he is a man with a big green heart. For starters, he has launched his own Eastern Congo Initiative to raise public awareness of issues in the Congo, specifically the region’s natural resources which are under threat. In addition, he has taken to social media platforms like Twitter to spread the message, educate his followers and encourage the public to support worthy causes and take action.

Gwyneth Paltrow

As one of Tinsel Town’s best-known A-listers, Paltrow has made sure she uses her fame and influence to make a difference, predominantly by raising awareness. She has also built Goop, her own e-commerce site which offers products from various sustainable fashion brands. Like Affleck, Paltrow tweets to the world about its problems and uses Goop’s chatroom to engage with the public about environmental and social issues. She also uses the internet to send eco-friendly initiatives, like World Water Day, viral.

Stella McCartney

Fashion royalty and green advocate, Stella McCartney keeps the issues at the heart of everything she does. Her fashion designs are not only stylish, but also sustainable, helping her to cement herself in the fashion world as both an icon and an inspiration. A true 21st century celebrity, she also takes to the Twittersphere to get the issues out there; she is often found encouraging her followers to discuss and debate climate change and sustainable living.

Ian Somerhalder

The Hollywood heartthrob is a real eco hero, not only for supporting various eco-initiatives, but also for setting up his own foundation to help the world out first-hand. Not only does he talk the talk on social media networks, but he also walks the walk with various charitable acts, and by raising awareness of issues such as global deforestation. He is an impressive celeb by all accounts.

Gisele Bündchen

An A-lister in every sense of the world, Bündchen is one of the world’s most beautiful women and one of its best eco-heroes. In 2011, she was even awarded the title of Greenest International Celebrity of the Year, because of her work and donations to environmental causes. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador and has been for many years, working with rainforest protection initiatives and a Clean Water Project in her home country of Brazil.

These are just five of the celebrity eco-heroes out there; others include Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Alec Baldwin, to name but a few. And if half of Hollywood are trading in glitz and glamour for green and eco-chic, there’s no reason you shouldn’t follow suit.
