Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

It has never been so important to reduce our waste, re-use items wherever we can and recycle as much as possible.

We believe that mums can take the lead – by teaching these valuable lessons to our children they will grow up with a thoughtful and respectful attitude to the environment which will continue into the future. We believe its time to lead by example.

Reduce
The waste we currently throw out is taken to landfill sites and once the rubbish gets there it becomes a hazard and a nuisance. It releases noxious gases into the air as it decomposes and reduces land space we can enjoy. By planning carefully, we can use what we need but avoid excess. Less can be more!

Re-use
Many items we throw away without a second thought could be re-used for another day or another purpose. Think creatively before you throw something out!

Recycle
The recycling of products into new materials often requires less energy than making products from scratch and helps to preserve our natural resources. Yet many products which can be recycled end up being thrown away, our current recycling rate in Britain is still only 27%. Make a habit of recycling!

What can you do?

You can decrease your impact on the environment by carefully choosing the products you buy:

  • Choose products without excessive packaging
  • Purchase items which can be re-used
  • If you purchase disposable goods make sure they are biodegradable
  • Check for the recycle symbol
  • Get the Recycle habit!

You can find more information on the WRAP website about what you can do to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Environmental problems may seem much too big to tackle. Don't be disheartened, even making a small change in your everyday life can help – especially if enough people are doing the same.
