Starts with a Simple Idea
bambu was launched with a simple idea. To create interest and excitement in renewable materials through contemporary design, and by doing that lessen the impact we place on the earth's limited natural resources.
bambu is the pioneer in introducing bamboo as a material suitable in the kitchen and home. Yet, they are not a bamboo company. We are simply inspired by a marvelous material that forms the foundation of the company, and the first step towards creating a renewable ideas company. “Bamboo is the poster child of renewable materials,” says owner and cofounder, Rachel Speth. We are fascinated with and focused on creating new and meaningful ways to bring renewable ideas into our everyday lives.

A Unique Way of Working
At-the-Source and On-the-Ground – The founders work and live at the source providing numerous benefits for everyone.
Our manufacturing partners are selected by meeting a number of criteria, including a commitment to quality craftsmanship, environmental protection and fair labor practices. Our production facilities have been audited by independent auditing firms for worker health & safety and environmental protection. We do not manufacture using 'sweatshop' type labor.
Local Skill Development and Economic Opportunity
We are helping to create new opportunities, teach new skills, and find better utilization of resources. We help set reasonable living wages, focus on work conditions, and improve health and safety standards. We provide employment and support for hundreds of craftspeople in local communities. bambu provides loans to our manufacturing partners to help improve work conditions and production efficiency at their facilities.

Materials
All bambu products are made from organically grown bamboo harvested by local farmers. See certification details below
Packaging
bambu catalogs are printed on environment friendly acid-free paper, produced by only using chlorine-free pulps. 75% of the fibers come from plantations or certified forests.
bambu paper packaging is printed on either FSC certified or post-consumer fiber. All our product packaging states, ‘Proudly Made in China,' and ‘Proudly Made in Vietnam,' and we stand firmly behind that statement.

bambu is the only company to have its bamboo source certified by an internationally recognized certification body. To date we have had the bamboo source for our All Occasion Veneerware®, and Natural Utensils certified. We will continue to expand our organic certification programs.

Only the highest grade imported food-safe adhesives, natural finishing oils and recycled materials in our packaging.
Spearheading FairTrade Initiatives.
While bambu currently follows fairtrade practices with all our manufacturing groups we're taking that a step further. We are embarking on getting fairtrade certification in Vietnam. The first and only bamboo company to do so.
